Invite Diligent Learning
Internalizing the Gospel Principles taught.
INTERNALIZING
TRUTH
“My heart pondereth continually upon the things which I have
seen and heard.” (2 Nephi 4:16)
“When a man speaketh by the power of the Holy Ghost the
power of the Holy Ghost carrieth [the message] unto the hearts of the children
of men” (2 Nephi 33:1)
We should always remember that the Holy Ghost is
the teacher… who can enter into a learner’s heart.

“Effective teachers will want to follow the pattern of the
resurrected Christ among the Nephites when He asked the multitude to return to
their ‘homes, and ponder upon the things’ He had taught them so that they might
understand.” (William D Oswald, Gospel Teaching – Our Most Important Calling,
Ensign, May 2008)
“The act of pondering on the scriptures and the things we
have seen and heard invites personal revelation to come into our lives.”
(William D Oswald, Gospel Teaching – Our Most Important Calling, Ensign, May
2008)
“Learning has to be done by the pupil. Therefore it is the
pupil who has to be put into action. When a teacher takes the spotlight,
becomes the star of the show, does all the talking, and otherwise takes over
all of the activity, it is almost certain that he is interfering with the
learning of the class members.” (Virginia H Pearce, The Ordinary Classroom – a
Powerful Place for Steady and Continued Growth, Ensign, Nov 1996, 11)
“We should always remember that the Holy Ghost is the teacher
who, through proper invitation, can enter into a learners’ heart. Indeed, you
and I have the responsibility to preach the gospel by the Spirit, even the
Comforter, as a prerequisite for the learning by faith that can be achieved
only by and though the Holy Ghost.” (David A Bednar, Seek Learning by Faith,
Ensign, September 2007, 60-68)
“When a person comes to believe in and care about a
principle to the point it changes or directs his or her behavior, that
principle becomes a value.” (Teaching the Gospel, A Handbook for CES Teachers,
6)
“Values… come… from the inner workings of the Spirit as we
live gospel principles… As we get our values from the gospel of Jesus Christ
rooted into our work, we are going to see excellence, and we’re going to see
some marvelous things.” (Henry B Eyring, Teaching the Gospel, A Handbook for
CES Teachers, 6)
“There are conditions that, if present in the learner, will
greatly enhance gospel learning. These conditions are learner readiness,
learner participation, and learner application. They are part of the learner’s
responsibility. But a teacher can help stimulate readiness, maintain
participation and aid application.” (Teaching the Gospel, A Handbook for CES
Teachers, 13)
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Why is ‘acting’ so
important to learning by faith? What is your role in creating the environment
in which the Spirit can teach you the things you need to know?

LEARNER APPLICATION
“If knowledge of a gospel principle is learned but not acted
upon or applied, the learning is not complete and the Spirit may cease to
strive with the individual.” (Teaching the Gospel, A Handbook for CES Teachers,
14)
